Reader’s Rig: Bob Chiavetta’s Third-Gen Ram

third-Gen Ram

Bob Chiavetta’s 2004 third-gen Ram stands as a testament to the dedication enthusiasts pour into their vehicles. This heavily modified truck boasts an array of performance and aesthetic upgrades and is a true marvel on and off the road.

At first glance, the truck stands out, thanks in part to the 6-inch BDS Long Arm Lift that not only provides an aggressive stance but also, significantly enhances its off-road capabilities. Paired with the lift are 37×12.5-17 Toyo tires mounted on American Mag Alcoa-style rims.

The lifted suspension system is augmented with Fox 2.0 shocks and a Fox steering stabilizer. These components not only contribute to a smoother ride, but also ensure that the truck can handle the toughest terrain with ease.

Under the hood, is an early 6.7-liter Cummins built by DFC Diesel that is controlled via an Edge with attitude speed chip, combined with 50-plus horsepower fuel injectors from Dynomite Diesel. The Banks Monster intake and K&N Air intake further optimize the engine’s performance, ensuring that every breath is maximized for power and efficiency.

Behind the engine is a 500-horsepower-capable transmission by Inglewood Transmissions, complete with a billet torque converter, promising both durability and performance.

Diesel-performance enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of an ARB air-locker differential in the rear, providing the necessary traction when the tires get rolling. Additionally, an onboard air compressor with a five-gallon tank ensures the truck is always ready for action, whether it’s inflating tires or powering air tools.

Bob’s commitment to both form and function is evident in the meticulously crafted custom slider nerf bars. Welded high and tight to the frame, these bars not only serve as a functional step for easier cabin access but also add a rugged aesthetic that complements the truck’s overall design.

The exterior enhancements continue with an aftermarket grill, headlights, and tinted brake lights. Combined with strategically placed light bars and rock lights, the truck not only stands out during the day but also commands attention when the sun sets. The fresh paint job serves as the finishing touch, giving the second-gen Ram a sleek and polished appearance.

Inside the cabin, the truck boasts a Kenwood system equipped with a backup camera, amps, and an impressive array of 10 Fosgate subs. The carbon-fiber toggle switches and cluster panels add a touch of modernity to the interior, elevating the driving experience to new heights.
