Firestone is most known for the production of automobile tires, and they certainly continue to do a great job supplying that market. Considering their knowledge in rubber technology it is no surprise that they are one of the leading manufacturers of air-springs, specifically in the helper-spring market.

We had the opportunity to speak with Robert Allen who explained a little about their newest product, “We have several new applications for all of the 2015 vehicles, and they are the same great air-springs that we have always supported. The air-springs bolt directly between the frame and the axle with no welding or fabrication. An average, fairly mechanically person could install them in about one to two hours if they chose to do it themselves, and it’s pretty simple stuff.”

In viewing the products on display and having seen them installed on various vehicles, we can’t foresee it being a huge challenge to complete in your own garage.

Allen also explained, “You can have a manual setup which you fill manually like a tire, but for anybody thats doing a decent amount of towing, we’d recommend an onboard system [with a pump] with an optional remote that allows you to raise and lower the vehicle while standing outside.”

We found this to be a pretty neat concept as it would make setting a perfectly level ride-height a breeze, and / or adjusting your tow vehicle’s height so that you can tow a level trailer.

Also, per Firestone’s advice, make sure you run a minimum of 5-10 psi at all times to insure the air-springs don’t rub themselves to death.
