As the Managing Editor of Power Automedia’s collection of magazine titles, and amidst celebrating our 15 year anniversary, I wanted to share some Q&A I had with the editors for each of our magazines so that you, our readers, could better understand who’s behind the wheel driving your favorite automotive content forward. The team at Off Road Xtreme encompasses a group of talented freelance writers and photographers with years of experience in their respective fields, all led by the Off Road Xtreme Editor, Micah Anderson. They are passionate about all things off-road and want to share that excitement with you – so come find out what they think is cool about the industry! I sat down with Micah to break down the personality behind the leading digital magazine to find out what being a “Media Mover, Shaker, and Story Breaker” means to him.
Q: What’s your mission for your magazine?
A: We are destined to own the #1 spot in the market because of our exclusive features, insightful information, and diverse entertaining content. Off Road Xtreme’s mission is to become the goto resource for everything off-road. Breaking news, performance & motorsports, future tech, industry insider features, how tos, and guides; we are working to bring all of this and more, on one platform, to the off-road community.
Q: How do you hope to make an impact in the space?
A: The most impactful thing we can do in the off-road community is to touch new markets and educate all enthusiasts. The space is growing rapidly but not everyone is informed on the standards and expectations. For their safety and the future of our culture, it is critical that they become proficient in the off-road ways.
Q: Why is automotive more than just a piece of transportation to you?
A: Automotive transportation, for the off-road enthusiast, means freedom. With our rides, we are not bound and chained to the confines of the pavement and the paint. We can break away from the societal lockstep and travel down our own path to our own world.
Q: Biggest moment for you in your career thus far?
A: The biggest moment of my career, for me, is just being plugged into the space and living the dream. I have carved out a career out of my passions and interests. I get to do what I love everyday. In the end, after being in the scene for twenty years, I have worked professionally on all sides of the industry. In the beginning, I was hanging out with my friends and going desert racing. We turned it into a company and I maneuvered that into a brand. It became the #1 brand and most successful at what they make and sell. I got drafted into short course off-road motorsport as a PR pro. That opportunity graduated into the corporate life as a marketing specialist. From there, I side-stepped into the automotive aftermarket as a brand manager. Along the way, I dabbled in producing successful off-road racing events. Now, I have achieved a life-long pursuit of becoming an automotive journalist.
Out of all of it, the one thing that stands out the most is pulling off the formation, organization and production of a super popular off-road event series called The jump Champs. The goal was to lower the barrier of entry and allow our participants to be the show. The competitors made memory milestones that will last a lifetime. Maxing out our entries, time after time, verified our success.
Q: What does being a media mover and shaker mean to you?
A: The most important aspect of what we do for our audience is to present entertaining and insightful content. We can package this in low ball features and comprehensive educational how-tos. Our goal is to present interesting and educational information that keeps the readers coming back. A media mover basically translates to being an influencer. If we can set the trends or identify trends before they become popular, and share that with our audience, we have done our job.
