Reader’s Rig: Duramax-Powered ’75 Ford F100 Ranger

This week’s Reader’s Rig comes from the great state of Texas. Jourdanton, Texas native, Treyton Bowcut, sent us a message on the Diesel Army Magazine Instagram page to show us his ride and we’re glad he did. We’re always looking for unique diesel-powered machines out there and this is one of them. What you see here is Bowcut’s ’75 Ford that took him over a year to get to this point.

In terms of engine swaps, you rarely see the V8 (diesel) engines being used. For Bowcut, this is what happened. He took a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck and transformed it into something that we can agree looks pretty cool. This ’75 Ford F-100 Ranger body rests on the ’07 GM frame and the 6.6-liter Duramax still powers it.

We’re unsure what made Mr. Bowcut want to tear this truck down and put another body on top, but he did! This truck was clean, too.

Underneath the surface, you’re hearing an LBZ-powered Silverado. On the outside, you’re straight out of the ’70s. Like any under-twenty-year-old, Bowcut didn’t leave this truck alone. He’s slowly started to customize it and make it his own, starting with some beefy 35-inch by 12.50-inch Toyo Open Country M/T tires.

Inside of his tires of choice is a set of American Force wheels measuring 20 inches by 12 inches. When it comes to the engine, Bowcut set it up with an AirDog lift pump system, an Edge Insight in the dash with five different settings, and a few extra goodies including B&W Hitches turnover ball, 50-percent over-stock injectors, and a pair of Airlift helper bags.
