Top UTVs At The 2017 Sand Sports Super Show

There were a ton of flashy, over the top UTV’s at the Sand Sports Super Show in Costa Mesa, California. In the sea of chrome, powder coat, and custom paint, some vehicles still managed to stand out above the rest. Some stood out for the way they looked while others were brimming with performance. The show attracts all types of UTV’s,

The show attracts all types of UTV’s, sand cars, race trucks, and offerings from the manufacturers like Honda. Polaris, Can-Am, Arctic Cat, and Yamaha. No matter what type of motorized recreation you are into, there was something for everyone. You might have your own list of favorites from the show, but these were some of our top UTV picks in no particular order.

House of Motorcycles Polaris Woodie

This car just looks cool. We can imagine cruising down a beach in Baja checking out the waves in this thing. The orange paint is super bright but the car has a simple, clean look to it. The wood grain wrap puts it over the top.

Parked right in the doorway to one of the buildings, you could not miss this bright orange Woodie Polaris. That roof rack could haul kayaks, a stack of surfboards, or even just a blanket and ice chest full of food and drinks.

Super clean stainless steel Trinity exhaust under the rear and the Assault radius rods (left). The PRP seats look beautiful in tan and super comfy. The PRP harnesses are all business but match nicely with the orange color scheme (right).

Sand Tires Unlimited paddle tires wrap around Weld, HIPer wheels (left). A Cage Wrx rear wing with clear led strip sits above a pair of Rockford Fosgate speakers (center). Baja Designs LED lighting up front means the good times don’t have to end when the sun goes down (right).

The attention to detail could be seen all over the UTV and it made for one custom ride. At the front of one of the halls this killer vehicle was too good to pass up, but wait until you see what we saw next!

The SuperATV After Shock, Low Talent Recovery Unit

With a six-inch suspension lift, and GDP four-inch Portal gear lift, this UTV stands head and shoulders above everything else at the show. The fully enclosed cab and custom bed on back means you are ready for action no matter what the conditions are. The multi-color graphics draw even more attention to the unique UTV.

The boom out back makes for quick recoveries (top left). Storage boxes built into the bed hold a full miller welding set-up and recovery gear (top right). Inside the rear box are an angle grinder, extension cord, tow strap and heavy duty chains. This rig means business (bottom left). We found someone else who really likes this UTV tow truck and who wouldn't want to go out and have some fun with it (bottom right).

Out back was a working boom and winch to haul anything they can chain to the drawbar. The imposing rig has 10 inches of total lift. With SuperATV LED lighting all around, you can see a full 360 degrees around the vehicle.

With the eye-catching wrap and bright colors, this was another vehicle that immediately caught our attention walking the fairgrounds. Up next was something we were excited to see in person after seeing pictures of it online.

Rugged Radios Rugged General

As long as we are looking at UTV trucks, how can anyone resist this flat fender Polaris UTV? The flat fender Willy’s helped to win World War 2 and this Rugged Radios creation looks ready for battle as well. An assortment of KC HiLites LED lights are available when not under blackout orders.

The build was done by NV Fab Shop in Grover Beach, California where Nick Valentine and his team got to work making the vision come to life. From the front, the Rugged General has an old-school feel while the side profile reveals a bit of an updated look, with the color-matched rocker panels making for the perfect mashup. The vehicle did use a factory Willys grille and windshield.

The Willys uses SuperATV suspension out back and has a little bling with the Walker Evans adjustable shocks (left). The canvas covered doors would look great on any UTV. Here they add another layer to the military theme (center). Inside you will find PRP low-back seats, and a bevy of Rugged Radios equipment including race radio, intercom, and a handheld. Also, notice the grenade shift knob (right).

The details in the build are something to notice. The tailgate was removed and swapped with a spare tire and ammo can carrier to complete the look. A custom flat-top cage was handmade by NV Fab, and fitted with a custom sewn canvas top.

YXZARI built by Privateer Motorsports and Assault UTV

This Yamaha based vehicle was a stand-out for its size and the custom fabrication found throughout. There are even more surprises when we got closer. The vehicle looked unique enough that we had to stop by and check it out each time we walked by.

A King Shocks full race coilover and bypass shock set-up is mounted at each wheel (left). Inside the cockpit is pure racecar with custom fabricated panels, Lowrance GPS, and an AEM CD-7 digital dash display (center). Four racks of KC HiLites LED pods share space with the King finned remote reservoirs up front. The fins dissipate heat from the shock fluid. Notice that the reservoirs are also fitted with compression adjusters (right).

Out back things get really crazy with a four-link rear suspension and what looks like a Toyota solid rear axle. This was definitely something that we did not expect to see on the back of a side-by-side. We bet this thing flies through the whoops!

With so much to see it was tough to pick our favorites. If you have not made it out to the show before make sure to put it on your calendar for 2018. Did you attend the 2017 Sand Sports Super Show? Tell us what you thought was the best vehicle there in the comments below!
