Off Road Xtreme made it out to witness the exciting and competitive time-trials at the 2022 Del Mar Tuff Trucks during the San Diego County Fair. It was another awesome and entertaining grass roots off-road racing put on by WGAS Motorsports. I look forward to this all year long and have been attending this particular event for the last twenty years! Once again, the 2022 Del Mar Tuff Trucks did not disappoint and we are here with an inside look. Off Road Xtreme has summary event coverage with a video highlight, photo gallery, and interview from Jason McNeil, driver of the FiberwerX spec Trophy Truck, who ultimately won the event.

In my opinion it is hard to beat excitement and entertainment that off-road racing provides at the lower levels. That is why I seek to attend WGAS Tuff Truck events as much as possible. WGAS host vehicle based competitions and entertainment all over the country, but the tuff trucks seems to be the most popular.
And the Del Mar Tuff Truck event held every summer during the San Diego County Fair is one of the biggest and most exciting. San Diego is a true mecca of off-road racing so you get a lot of racers entered from every level. Everything from legit Trophy Trucks to DIY garage-built daily driver prerunners, and UTVs to beach buggy baja VWs, WGAS has them all.
The event usually takes place over the course of two days, with multiple rounds, and each day being its own separate competition. For the 2022 Del Mar Tuff Trucks, it was determined that WGAS would take the fastest lap time of the day’s round to decide the overall and class winners.
2022 Del Mar Tuff Trucks Vehicle Variety Comes In Every Flavor
I mean come on! A couple of days off during the middle of the week to hang out at the beach and watch some off-road racing…. I would not want to be anywhere else! This is exactly how I feel, and you will be hard pressed to change my mind. For many years, when I was locked in an office or cubicle, I was calling out sick or using my paid time off to make sure I was on site for the Del Mar Tuff Trucks.
You can always count on a grip of the East County boys showing up. This year Blake Wilkey brought out his new Jaws Trophy Truck Baja Bug and the Megladon v8 powered Baja Buggy. Kevin from Quixotic Motorsports, Matt Darby, and my dude Jason Mount were all having fun and going for it.

So many years with all of the bros, it feels like a reunion with a main course of off-road action. Except now, the youngsters with home built off-road rigs and fresh drivers licenses, now mostly have a fleet of youngsters all their own. This means that there is a second and third generation of Tuff Truck competitors. And if you are a McNeil, it is a large enough group to make your own race team.
