In the world of off road, customization of vehicles is something that comes out of necessity to improve the handling characteristics of off road vehicles. Whether that customization is mild or wild depends heavily on the imagination of the owner.
For the extremely imaginative, customization can be taken to an entirely different level as rather than customizing their existing vehicle, they will go and blaze their own trail by creating their own vehicle all together. Such is the case with Alec from Keep It Simple Off Road who created his very own off roader dubbed the “Sidewinder II.”
Powered by a 4.3-liter Vortec V6 engine out of a Chevy S10 and paired up with a Chrysler 727 transmission with a Dana 300 transfer case, this 4×4 is built to take on the Arizona trails in style. Of honorable mention, the Sidewinder II also has four wheel steering, computer controlled airbags, and a hydraulic frame extension – let that sit in for a second. Hydraulic frame extension? What that means is that the driver can adjust the wheelbase within a range of 20-inches – going from 99-inches to 119-inches depending on the terrain. Now that is innovative!
Based off the original Sidewinder, which you can actually purchase videos of how to build yourself, the Sidewinder II adds extra bits and pieces to improve over the original on nearly every aspect of the truck. Thankfully, they kept the air ride suspension, however, as air ride suspension really gives a plush ride that would be nice while cruising the trails.
