AutoTrader Find: 1981 Six-Axle Blazer Gets You Above It All For $10K

81Blazer2 Customized vehicles: don’t you just love ’em? This AutoTrader find (no. AT-154BB369) looks like one for the inner Chuck Norris-duck hunter in all of us.

81Blazer1Despite its rattle-can-tastic camo paint job, there’s no hiding this six-axle monstrosity of a Chevy K5 Blazer. Its attention-craving is off the charts, so it’s only fair that it get its 15 minutes of fame. Interestingly, it’s worth pondering that perhaps the owner wanted the thing painted in a manner reflecting the militarized version of the K5, the M1009 CUCV, or Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle.

Sporting either olive drab or a woodland pattern of camouflage, the trucks were fitted with a 6.2L V8 diesel better suited to fuel mileage than power, rated at 165 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. They lasted from 1983 to 1987, and several decommissioned examples made their way to government auctions to be sold off to the general public. We doubt that our hero got himself a genuine M1009, but it’s entirely possible; he apparently can handle sitting on an alligator and petting a tiger — check the photos.

Anyway, it looks like all the manly options are checked off: a manual transmission (the bulletproof four-speed SM465), aftermarket locking hubs, and a four-bolt main V8. His three axles come courtesy of Rockwell, and it’s ready for all the mean road ahead with what looks like some surplus military tires.

Third-row seating — mo’ passengers, mo’ fun! “It is red neck perfection,” says the owner, “If you are a man then step the truck up.” But for $10,500, maybe that’s a step too far for some folks who’ll have to deal with maintaining a three-axle Blazer. What do you think?
