Our own armed forces seem to have plenty of money to spend on high-dollar planes, high-tech weaponry and well-armored vehicles, but during a recent Romanian national holiday it was obvious that these guys and gals in green are a bit behind on the budget.
On this occasion, the Romanian Ministry of Defense showcased a Dacia Duster vehicle specially modified, if that’s what you want to call it, for military use. The vehicle was the highlight of the holiday military parade taking near Bucharest’s Arch of Triumph monument.
According to the report seen on Carscoops.com, the vehicle was modified by Renault’s Romanian engineering center, and fitted with special features that included an armor system, underbody protection for the engine, gearbox, fuel tank and rear differential, a removable winch, an anchoring system for air transport, the capability to tow military trailers, “black out” and camouflaged lighting systems, as well as exterior 12- and 24-volt outlets.
You have probably noticed the most prominent of all the modifications–the machine gun on top of the car, mounted to an exoskeleton-like roll cage . On parade too were a pair of Duster police vehicles based on the armored vehicle. Also included during the day’s events were other special vehicles based on the Duster, such as firefighters and border police vehicles, but none got our attention like the wannabe HUMVEE. What do you think–look like it would stand up to a serious fire fight?
