If you bought a Ford F-150, Jeep Wrangler or Ram 1500 in 2013, then you’re among a large contingent of happy truck shoppers. 2013 was the year of the full-size truck, according to new car shoppers on AutoTrader.com. As a matter of fact, trucks made up nearly half of the top 20 most popular new vehicles on the site this year, including three (Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500) of the top five.
“The full-size truck segment is historically the most popular vehicle segment on our site, but it grew this year to garner more than 20 percent share of shopper interest,” said Isabelle Helms, vice president of Research and Market Intelligence, AutoTrader.com. “We believe this is due to a combination of growth in the housing and construction sectors and the number of models that were all-new for the 2013 and 2014 model years.”
The top five favorite vehicles of AutoTrader.com shoppers, ranked from first on down, were the Ford F-150, Jeep Wrangler, Ram 1500, Ford Mustang and Chevy Silverado 1500. The most popular vehicles are determined by analyzing the number of car shoppers who click on a listing for a new car for sale on AutoTrader.com.
The system AutoTrader.com uses to gather this information goes beyond search to not only illustrate what vehicles shoppers are actively interested in learning more about, but also the new vehicles dealers are offering for sale.
We at Off Road Xtreme are not at all surprised by these results. Trucks are ultimately more versatile vehicles than cars, and for many owners, provide a mode of recreation as well as transportation.
