Lose The Squat: RoadActive Suspension Offers Silverado Towing Help

For truck owners with a leveling kit, rear-end squat is a constant headache. Zach of Zach Attack Customs decided to tackle this problem on his Chevy Silverado, not with airbags, but with a RoadActive Suspension installation, and he documented the entire process. He wanted a simple, effective solution to the squat he experienced when adding weight or towing his boat.

RoadActive Suspension Before and After: The Squat Test

Before the installation, Zach took baseline measurements to quantify the problem. Hooked up to his boat, the rear of his Silverado sagged to just 40-5/8 inches at the fender. A test drive over a bridge confirmed the issue, revealing some huge bouncing. After the RAS kit was installed, the results were immediate. With the same boat hitched up, the rear fender now sat at 41-3/4 inches—a gain of over an inch that dramatically reduced the squat.

The installation process proved to be as straightforward as advertised. Zach said it only took him about 15-20 minutes per side, a far cry from the complexities of an airbag system. He attached the unit to the leaf spring and axle, then tensioned the powerful coil spring. The kit included two discs to set the desired strength; Zach chose the black disc, which provided a 40 percent increase in suspension strength for his towing and hauling needs.

The One-Week Driving Review

After a week of driving, Zach’s review was overwhelmingly positive. He was most surprised by the improvement in daily driving and said, “It’s almost as if I’ve turned on a second traction control button. The rear end seems to be a lot more planted down, and in turns it’s way more stable.” The system also proved its worth while towing, leading him to give a strong recommendation: “If you pull a boat or a trailer, this is a must.”

Zach’s Final Conclusion

At the end, Zach concluded, “I absolutely recommend this product. It really did make a difference, it strengthened up the suspension, and it was an easy installation you can do right in your driveway.” For truck owners looking for a DIY-friendly solution to squat and instability, the RoadActive Suspension installation proved to be exactly what his Silverado needed.
