Monterey Car Week is typically known for sleek supercars and priceless classics, but this year, one of the biggest head-turners might just be a heavy-duty German workhorse. The Monterey Motorsports Festival has announced that James Kirkham, the co-founder of Donut Media and Race Service, will be a headline attraction at its August 16th event, and he’s bringing his now-famous Mercedes Unimog and AMG GT3 race car with him.
James Kirkham at the Monterey Motorsports Festival
James Kirkham has been a major force in automotive media for over a decade, creating a new style of video content and storytelling that has captivated millions of fans. As the Chief Brand Officer for Race Service, his work, especially in Formula 1, has helped demystify the sport for a new generation. Fans attending the festival will have a chance to meet him in person during an autograph session scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Stage.
The Raw Spec and its Transporter
Kirkham is bringing two of his most well-known creations to the show. The first is the Race Service AMG GT3 Raw Spec, a unique project car built in partnership with Mercedes-AMG Motorsports that blends the worlds of racing, art, and culture. The second, and perhaps even more eye-catching, is the vehicle that transports the GT3: a massive Mercedes Unimog. This heavy-duty, off-road machine, rarely seen in North America, is a spectacle in itself, featuring a built-in crane to lift the race car onto its cargo bed.
A True Festival of Car Culture
The addition of James Kirkham and his unique rigs perfectly complements the lineup at the Monterey Motorsports Festival. He joins other headliners like drift icon Mad Mike with his 1000hp MADMAC P1 and a music festival headlined by DJ Dillon Francis.
The event, which runs from 5-11 p.m. at the Monterey Fairgrounds, is shaping up to be a true celebration of modern car culture, showcasing everything from hypercars to JDM legends. Kirkham’s presence adds a key voice from the world of automotive media, making this a can’t-miss stop during Monterey Car Week.
