When you’re creating a brand-new racing series with hydrogen-powered trucks set to tackle some of the world’s most brutal off-road courses, you need a suspension that can survive the abuse.
Extreme H has found its answer, announcing a multi-year team-up with the suspension experts at FOX. The partnership will put a next-generation FOX suspension system under every single Pioneer 25 race truck.
FOX isn’t coming into this blind. The company spent the last three years working closely with the sister series, Extreme E, learning what works and what breaks in extreme conditions.
That real-world experience helped them develop a completely new suspension package for the hydrogen-powered trucks. The goal was to build a system that gives teams better performance and control while being tough enough to last.
The new setup is a serious upgrade. The Pioneer 25 trucks now have an extra shock absorber on the front axle to help handle the abuse. All of the bypass shocks are now larger 3.0-inch units, and the trucks have nearly three more inches of wheel travel to soak up bigger hits and harder landings. This means the trucks can be pushed faster and harder across the punishing terrain.
The biggest news is the inclusion of FOX’s Live Valve system. This is a smart suspension that thinks for itself, constantly adjusting the shocks in real-time.
It actively fights the truck’s tendency to nose-dive under hard braking or lean heavily in fast corners, keeping the vehicle much more stable. Drivers can also choose from different preset modes to quickly adjust the handling for whatever the course throws at them. This team-up is a glimpse into the future of off-road competition. For FOX, it’s a chance to prove their technology on a new frontier.
“Extreme H gives us the opportunity to work alongside world-class racers and teams who are shaping the future of motorsport,” said Bobby Smith, FOX Director of Motorsports.
“As the automotive industry evolves toward electrification and hydrogen, we’re excited to be part of this transition, delivering the performance and control that FOX is known for, now in an entirely new era of racing,” he also added.
