The raw, adrenaline-charged thrill of a full-size sand car, with its 1,000-plus horsepower engine roaring and massive suspension soaking up towering dunes, is an experience unlike any other. Traxxas now aims to bring that unique excitement with the official release of its new Pro Scale® Sand Car.

This new RC contender immediately impresses with its sheer size. Traxxas considers the Pro Scale Sand Car as the largest member of its X-Series™ family. They engineered this model to deliver the same excitement when driving a full-size Funco Motorsports machine that achieves speeds of over 55 mph.

Scale Model Funco GTU Sand Car

Traxxas faithfully replicated the Funco GTU Sand Car design and features a complete interior with a detailed dashboard and driver figures. Other scale touches include replica remote-reservoir 3.5-inch shocks and an intricately modeled engine.

This engine replica comprises nine distinct pieces, incorporating licensed R2C air filters and a mock Whipple supercharger, adding to the visual realism.

Underpinning this detailed exterior is an internal tube frame. This heavily reinforced structure supports the entire body, offering protection during rollovers and providing rigid mounting points for components like the rear wing.

Traxxas also implemented a clipless body mounting system with self-energizing latches, allowing the entire body structure to lift off in seconds for easy access to the chassis. The Pro Scale Sand Car uses Traxxas’ most formidable brushless system, the Velineon® VXL-8s™ speed control, paired with a 1200XL motor.

Big Power & Functional Brakes

This system, capable of handling over 30 volts of power, delivers instant wheelies and relentless acceleration across the entire RPM range. To manage this power through the rear wheels only, Traxxas developed what it calls its “toughest driveline ever.”

Specialized features further enhance its sand-slinging capabilities. Aggressive paddle tires featuring twice the traditional number of ribs and a belted carcass to prevent distortion and ensure maximum forward bite.

For stopping power, functional front disc brakes, complete with sheathed cables clamping down on drilled stainless steel rotors and actuated by a digital 2075 servo, work in tandem with the rear motor braking for controlled four-wheel stopping.

The Ready-To-Race® package includes the Sand Car with motor and ESC, a TQi™ 2.4 GHz radio system, whip lights, a wheelie bar, optional speed gearing, and maintenance tools.

Batteries Not Included

Owners will need to supply dual four-cell LiPo batteries (Traxxas recommends its 6700 mAh Power Cell LiPos or a Dual 4s Completer Pack), a compatible LiPo balance charger like the Traxxas EZ-Peak® Live Dual, and four AA alkaline batteries for the transmitter.
