Back in the late 40s and early 50s, the United States was dealing with the after-affects of war, bringing military service men back to the factory forefront, moving women from the factory floors back to their homemaker status and trying to move on in a productive post-war way. For Jeep trademark owner Willys, its post-war efforts evolved into a new line of utility vehicles which introduced the Willys Jeepster, a mix between a utility vehicle and family car, in 1948. Some 65 years later, one of these unique vehicles is up for sale on eBay, but we’re not talking about your factory Jeepster anymore.
The Jeepster up for sale on eBay is a heavily modified version of the post WWII “military man’s sportscar.” Not only has this Willys been transformed into a modern-day hot rod thanks to a tube-style frontend with coilovers and a Ford 9-inch rearend, the rig also sports body and interior modifications, an engine upgrade, and some fancy wheels.
Powering the Jeepster is a fresh Chevy ZZ4 engine capable of producing 335 HP, a far more substantial amount compared to the 62 HP the standard inline-four engine contributed back in 1948.
Adding to the collection of mods are a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive, all-wheel power disc brakes, and Boyd Coddington wheels of the 15 and 17-inch varieties wrapped with Goodyear Comp T/A radials. All these upgrades give the vintage Jeepster an entirely new level of performance.
Matching the upgrades to the drivetrain and suspension are alterations to the Jeepster’s true phaeton body, such as shaved suicide doors and a shaved power trunk. Topping off the Jeepster is a Blue and Yellow PPG two-stage paint job laid by John Johnson with custom pinstriping done by Monster Garage’s Pete “Hot Dog” Finlan.
Inside the Jeepster, you’ll find just as many modifications, including an upgraded audio system with GPS and DVD capabilities, blue leatherette upholstery and blue carpeting done by John’s Custom Auto Upholstery of Sparks, Nevada.
The Jeepster is listed on eBay until October 31st, with a “Buy It Now” price of $42,900 from MotoeXotica of St. Louis, Missouri. Check it out quick or the opportunity to buy one of the most customized Jeepsters we’ve ever seen might just slip away.
