SEMA 2020: Superchips Flashcal Comes To Jeep JL And Gladiator

Computer-controlled diagnostics, sensors, and readouts have changed how Jeeps work. Nowadays, whenever an owner installs a significant modification, these popular 4x4s need tweaking. On top of mods, tire pressure monitoring systems, auto start/stop, and other electronic functions affect Jeeps, and Superchips now offers a device to make sense of it all – case in point, the Flashcal.

The Flashcal is now available for the latest Jeep models including the Wrangler JL and Gladiator. We spoke with Superchips’ Jacob White to get the inside scoop on this device. “Flashcal offers Jeep owners an easy, effective, and inexpensive option to recalibrate their Jeep speedometer after installing larger wheels and tires,” he said. “Flashcal’s simple, step-by-step, on-screen instructions make for seamless functionality to configure JLs and Gladiator JTs exactly the way the owner needs it.”

The primary feature – adjusting the speedometer – is one that Jeep owners should look into, not just for speed readout accuracy, but also for optimal drivetrain function. “With larger tires comes a change in the tire revs per mile, which throws off the speedometer calculation,” explained White. “Flashcal adjusts for tire size to keep the speedometer accurate, and it also maintains proper shift points for automatic transmissions. The Flashcal also handles aftermarket gear ratio changes, too.”

In addition to altering the tire size and gear ratio, the device also takes care of needling electronic alerts like tire pressure monitoring systems and auto start/stop. “Some owners find these alerts annoying, and our Flashcal offers a solution,” said White. “Using the device, owners can adjust the TPMS thresholds for aftermarket tires. They can also disable the auto start/stop function.”

Installing the Flashcal is simple and straightforward. It uses the ODB-II diagnostics port located under the dashboard and plugs directly in. “The Flashcal handles all of its modifications to the Jeep electronically,” commented White. “The screen will prompt users with step-by-step instructions to make changes.”

When modifying your Jeep JL or Gladiator, the Flashcal is a must-have device. It will ensure proper operation and even take care of those annoyances involved with TPMS and auto start/stop.
