With SEMA 2019 in full swing, we took a chance to stop by Body Armor 4×4 to get a look at a few of the company’s newest products hitting the market. Sitting center-stage in the booth was a 2016 Tacoma featuring the all-new HiLine-series bumper and a tent system that warranted a closer look. James Grossaint from Body Armor took a few minutes to go over some of the details that make these products stand out.
“The HiLine bumper is a center section bumper,” James points out. “It replaces the black end cap on the center, so you don’t have to trim the entire bumper.” Made of 3/16-inch steel, it features a one-piece design for easy bolt-on installation. The bumper has the capability for supporting a 20-inch light bar, support for up to a 10,000-pound winch, multiple D-ring points, and an incorporated bull bar. “It’s finished in a light textured-black powdercoat and really matches the rest of Tacoma,” James adds in.
The back half of the Tacoma features a pre-release set of products that will be available in 2020 — the Sky Ridge line. Initially featuring three pieces in the series, the Sky Ridge line will include an overland roof tent, annex room, and a 6.5-foot awning. “We listened to some of the concerns about the current offerings on the market and addressed those with this series,” James says of the thought process behind the line.
The main piece of the Sky Ridge series is a two-person overland tent featuring an overhang to keep things dry when out in the field. Made from heavy-duty ripstop material and available in a grey finish, the tent also includes an upgraded ladder system for better accessibility. To ensure you don’t miss out on a view of the stars the tent features a sky window that fully opens.
An optional rainfly can be added for wetter conditions as well as the second piece of the series, the annex mudroom to keep the sleeping area clean and provide additional protected space. “It will fit just about anything with a rack,” James noted about fitment options. Finally, James relayed that Body Armor 4X4 was aiming for a very affordable price point for the Sky Ridge series, despite all of the upgraded features.
