12 hand built Hummer H1s in three years – that’s the concept behind the Mil-Spec Automotive Launch series. Marking the halfway point in that journey, #6 is a built-to-spec custom order following a very specific design philosophy: “Simple, yet dramatic.” Utilizing a Detroit-sourced slant-back H1, its design process included months of internal development and refinement to produce this final vehicle. In the end, Mil-Spec has delivered another stunning example in their Launch Series builds.
“Triple deep sky black” is how Mil-Spec describes the paint scheme used on this vehicle, and it is a very fitting description. With the use of a single color, the design utilizes textures and gloss levels to highlight the H1’s body panels. Following that same color scheme, there is a Mil-Spec brush guard, rear bumper and folding running boards to keep the body protected and help with loading and unloading of passengers and gear. Another design feature is the functional hood scoop tucked behind that front brush guard. A 60-inch light bar and custom winch system round out the exterior options and balance out the Hummer’s utilitarian look.
Utilizing Mil-Spec’s second-generation air ride suspension system, this truck highlights another of those design evolutions. This auto leveling system features improved on-road performance and ride quality as well as seven inches of travel to ensure it lives up to the H1’s off-road heritage. An onboard air system allows the driver full independent control of each corner to be ready for any terrain. 38-inch Nitto Ridge Grapplers grace those corners mounted on a set of custom 20-inch MIL-Spec rims.
Inside #6, a duck canvas and black leather appointed cockpit focuses on the same utilitarian theme as the exterior. Continuing with the next generation of design elements, improved sound dampening materials were added to the cab, as well as a match set of fitted Pelican luggage. Other custom touches, such as laser-etched switches, help keep that “distinct Mil-Spec aesthetic but turned up a few notches.”
With #6 in the books, #7 and #8 are slotted for release this year. If you’re ready to commission your own Launch Edition H1, Mil-Spec has vehicles #10 and #11 still available for order.
