At events like the Off Road Expo, vendors come prepared to showcase what they have available for off-pavement enthusiasts. We made our way over to the COMP booth to speak with Ed Monte about a highlight of their display: the FAST EZ-EFI system.
“Our big push here is to explain fuel injection and help answer their questions,” said Monte. “It’s technology beyond the carburetor that a lot of people have misconceptions about, and we want to clear that up.”

The primary version of EZ-EFI comes with a throttle body, EZ-EFI ECU, and handheld tuner, as well as a wiring harness (not pictured).
Though carbed setups on trucks are not a factor in trucks of modern times, they affected many a rig prior to the 1980s. Old AMC Jeeps like the CJs and Wagoneers would benefit greatly from the switch to EFI, as Monte explained.
“It gives users better efficiency and perhaps better fuel economy,” he said. “Another nice thing about it is that it doesn’t starve from fuel delivery problems the way a carb would, say if you were to be on an incline going up and trying to get somewhere. The way orientation and gravity can affect a carb are practically non-issues once EZ-EFI is installed.”
The EZ-EFI system is perfect for those running older 4x4s and wanting to move on from carb-related fuel starvation issues.
“If you’re bouncing through the desert or something, the EZ-EFI allows the motor to keep going,” continued Monte. “It won’t burble or bog down in sand, or going up and down inclines.”
