Smart phones have taken over the world and are such a normal part of life that we as a culture are used to them working as they should. Unfortunately, the Samsung Note 7 is a painful reminder that not everything is perfect. The Note 7 is supposed to be a new top of the line phone that can handle nearly anything. Seems as though someone needs to invent a fire extinguisher app for them.
A family in St. Petersburg, Florida ended up losing their Jeep Grand Cherokee because of the cell phone. Samsung has had over 35 incidents where the lithium ion battery explodes and has now issued a global recall to bring back all two and half million Galaxy Note 7 phones that were shipped to consumers and stores.
Nathan Dornacher and his family were having a good Labor Day morning. They had just gotten home from a yard sale and were unloading a dresser they had purchased. While unloading, the Note 7 sat in the Jeep, charging. The family intended on heading back out to run a few errands and when they returned to the vehicle, it was engulfed in flames. The Note 7 exploded and caught the Jeep on fire.
Note much of the Jeep is left usable after the catastrophic fire.
Dornacher mentioned to Fox 13 news of Florida that he had added many upgrades to the Jeep. Now they are all toast along with the Jeep. Based on the pictures, the Jeep had a suspension lift and new larger tires. Other upgrades were not mentioned.

The fire devastated the majority of the Jeep. Fire fighters were able to get on scene and put out the blaze before everything was destroyed.
Unfortunately, the upgrades added to the vehicle will likely get passed over in the insurance evaluation as they would with many of the upgrades added to most vehicles. Insurance companies do generally offer higher plans that do include approved upgrades, but they are generally more expensive and take money away from upgrades and modifications.
As of right now, there have been no reports or injuries from the exploding Samsung phones. Thankfully the Dornacher’s daughter and family dog were not in the Jeep at the time of the incident.
