Last year before SEMA we headed out to Herbst Smith Fabrication in Huntington Beach, California to see the team building two, brand new Trophy Trucks. It is one thing to see the truck soak up three-foot whoops, but it is something else to see how they all come together.
Those two trucks finished they took on what seemed to be an impossible task, building a truck in the 50 days leading up to this years Baja 500. Trophy Trucks could take six months to complete, but they took the truck down South and finished in the Top 5 after starting 28th.
On our last trip they are up to it once again, building another Trophy Truck, but this time, they get to take their time and do not have to finish it in 50 days. The truck was just getting started, with just the first couple of tubes being mocked up.
It is all just one big puzzle.
It is all just a big puzzle, one that no one knows exactly how many pieces are in. Our favorite episode from 50 Days To The 500 was the one that they were being asked just how many tubes and welds were on the truck.
They said the truck should be done in around 12 weeks, which should seem like an eternity to the team after the last build. The owner of the truck is a mystery, and we will have to wait and see who will get behind the seat.
Stay tuned for more updates on the build, and to see what else is coming out of the shop.
