As existing proof that great thing come in small packages, UTVs like the ever-popular Polaris RZR have injected new life into the love of off-roading. However, they aren’t without their faults, and the suspension in particular can be a sore spot for enthusiasts if and when it fails.

A shock absorber showing Energy Suspension’s new polyurethane bushings for the Polaris RZR. These bushings improve over the stock rubber by offering better longevity.
Critical points on the RZR have been known to wear out when exposed to different off-roading situations, but fortunately, Energy Suspension has stepped up to deliver some fantastic new offerings. These new offerings include bushings for the 2008-14 RZR 800/S front control arms (PN 70.7006R) and rear control arms (PN 70.7007R), as well as the 2008-12 RZR 800/S shocks absorbers (PN 70.7001R). We spoke with Energy Suspension’s Lonny Spiva to learn more about these products. Follow along below.
What was the goal behind the development of these bushings for the RZR?
Lonny Spiva:Â Everybody replaces their bushings with delrin, but they’re hard, so it leads to stress on the control arms and shocks bodies. Putting delrin in is like using a brass bushing. Polyurethane is a more compliant product while still being a little firm; it has a little give in it. Because of this, polyurethane doesn’t wear out like rubber or plastic. Somebody came to us and asked how polyurethane would work in these conditions and we thought it would work great, and after less than two years of development, we’re excited to offer our products on the market.
Testing on the bushings was performed by several parties ranging from Canada to California.
How was testing performed on the bushings?
LS: We had people from all over the country do testing. Guys in Ohio, guys here locally that go to Glamis, a guy in Canada and they gave us feedback, what they liked or disliked. The nice thing about our polyurethane is that we can control its durometer, meaning we can control how hard or soft the polyurethane gets. Some people use just one durometer for everything, but we seek to find the right durometer for the right application.
Where can customers get these bushings?
LS:Â Customers can get them in Canada at UTV Canada, through Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, and through Magnum Distributing. We are also working with a major distributor that we’ll announce this year.
What can a customer expect when it comes to installation?
LS: Installation is easy. You pull the old bushings out and put new bushing in, and you can use grease to your discretion. We recommend not using too much grease if the RZR is heading for sand, as sand will catch and become an abrasive and wear down the material over time. However, if you’re going to go fording through water and forests, you can use more grease. You should use our specially formulated grease that comes with each kit that is available upon request. The part number is 9.11110.
