The Best in the Desert (BITD) race series is coming to the end of the season, and the end of an era for the Henderson 250. After 12 years of racing the Henderson 250 the time has come to retire the race.
Casey Folks said, “We’ve had a long run with the wonderful people from the City of Henderson and appreciate all they have done to support our great sport of off-road desert racing. There is no doubt in my mind that the Henderson 250 has been a truly epic off-road racing event. This race has offered an adventure and great memories for everyone.”
This year’s race takes place December 4th to the 6th, and caps off the 2015 BITD season. A total purse of $186,000 was to be paid out during the course of the season. At each race, the top six participating drivers received $10,000 for first, $7,000 for second, $5,000 for third, $3,000 for fourth, $2,000 for fifth, and $1,000 for sixth.
In addition, at the conclusion of the race season, an extra year-end cash bonus will be awarded along with the coveted Trick Truck Challenge Cup trophy to the overall champion. There is also the Camburg “Best in the Desert” award for having the fastest average speed. Averaging 55.9 mph, Cody Parkhouse sits atop the list with Steve Olliges at 55.7 mph, and Rob MacCachren with an average speed of 51.9 mph.
There are 168 enteries into the final race. This has been a great race for beginners as logistics are easy and only need one support vehicle. The sun may have set on this race, but it will rise again on a very exciting 2016 BITD season.
