With SEMA right around the corner, shop builds are popping up all over the internet. We came across Roadster Shop‘s SEMA build on Instagram, and it immediately grabbed our attention. They are building a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado prerunner that will be at the GoPro booth during next months SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We asked Phil Gerber, Roadster Shop vice president of sales and marketing, why they choose the Chevy Colorado. “After seeing the Colorado at last year’s SEMA show, we instantly fell in love with the design and the lines of the truck.  My brother Jeremy and myself, both started throwing around ideas of what could be done to use the Colorado as a basis for an over the top prerunner.”

“After looking the truck over, the decision was made that if we were going to do this, it was going to be done all the way.  We wanted a truck that left nothing to be desired,” Gerber stated.

The truck has everything, and we mean everything. The truck is a one-off complete chassis and suspension designed, engineered, and built by the Roadster Shop. It has a center mount front suspension with 24 inches of travel, trailing arm rear suspension with 27 inches of travel, and Fox Shocks 2.5-inch coilovers, 3.5-inch bypass shocks, and 2.5-inch bump stops.

The quality of work put out by Roadster Shop can be seen throughout this build. Roadster Shop designed and built the 4130 chromoly A-arms and trailing arms, while also fabricating 2.5-inch hollow spindles. To keep them safe when in the dirt the team added a full roll cage and engine cage.

Being known for their sheetmetal work has also transferred to the prerunner build. While most prerunner’s run fiberglass fenders, Roadster Shop custom built sheet metal fenders for the truck. They also built the front bumper, fascia, skid plate, and bed sides.

Roadster Shop has been an industry mainstay for over 25 years in the chassis fabrication and turn key vehicle building market for street rods and muscle cars. “This is the first off-road truck that we have built.  We have been in to the off-road stuff since birth.  My dad started building VW powered dune buggies and going to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan when he was 16.”

“He started taking the whole family out there as soon as we were old enough to stand.  My brother and I started on mini-bikes than into quads and motocross.  We are currently into long travel sand cars and RZR’s. We wanted to build a truck that was capable of keeping up and possibly outrunning those in the sand dunes,” Gerber mentioned about building their first off-road vehicle.

To make the truck outrun the fastest vehicles in the dunes the team added a 498ci RHS block LS motor by Wegner Racing which makes 760 hp. It has a 4L80 manual valvebody transmission by ATD transission. Running out back is a three inch stainless exhaust with Borla XR1 mufflers. Keeping the motto of nothing left behind a MB Quartz stereo system will be added to make sure the music is rocking in the dunes.
