This year continues to be the year changes for the pickup market. Toyota as announced a few interior and exterior changes to the 2016 Toyota Tundra.
There has been some speculation on the 2016 Tundra coming equipped with the Cummins 5.0-liter V8 turbo diesel, the same motor the new Nissan Titan will use later this year, but they remain just rumors at this point as Toyota did not release any material with engine options. A midyear availability is not completely out of the question at this point but with Cummins nor Toyota announcing anything it is unclear.
The SR5 and 1794 Edition trim models will get some grille changes, while most of the Tundra trim packages will look similar to the 2015 models. Toyota will still be offering the TRD Pro off-road trim in the Tundra, but it will not be offered with on the 2016 Tacoma when it hits showrooms later this year.
The 1794 Edition western-luxury premium trim will now be available with a more serious off-road package that includes bigger, more aggressive wheels and tires, Bilstein-brand shocks, skid plate, tow hooks and more. If you are looking for color options, you may need to look else where as base Tundras will only come in Super White, black, and Radiant Red colors.
All trim levels on the 2016 Toyota Tundra will have an upgraded Entune audio technology. The only major mechanical change will be the addition of a brand-new, 38 gallon fuel tank option.
The tank may be an option but it will be standard on the 5.7-liter V8 models, including the Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition and TRD Pro Series. Also standard on the larger V8 option, and not in the smaller 4.6-liter aluminum V-8, will be a trailer brake controller.
blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert systems are no longer a separate option and are now bundled in all the premium-level models, and a Convenience Package on the lower-end SR and SR5 trims. Pricing for the 2016 Toyota Tundra will be released month.
