A wet and wild weekend for rounds nine and ten of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at Glen Helen Raceway. Everyone knew that California has been in a major drought, well mother nature decided to unload a down pour over the weekend.
It was an interesting weekend, with teams showing up Friday to set up camp in the pits, and expecting to race under the lights Saturday and Sunday. The weather had other plans. The thunderstorm came in hard and soaked the course, drivers, and fans.
Saturday’s round nine was postponed and pushed to Sunday morning at 10 am. All starting positions for the weekend’s races would be determined by championship points, with no qualifying for any round.
Racing started Sunday morning under cloudy skies. Pro4 started like it has been for the last seven races, Kyle Leduc took the lead and once again never looked back. Leduc won for the eighth consecutive time this year. The battles for the remaining positions where close all race long. Brian Deegan and Doug Fortin battled for second, with a late restart Deegan was able to overcome Fortin for the position.
Deegan tried to make a run at Leduc late in the race, only to end up short. Deegan was able to obtain the fastest lap of the race. Finishing third was racing veteran Rob MacCachren.
Pro2 closed out racing for round nine. Bryce Menzies took the hole shot and lead early, but a mechanical issue ended his race day. Capitalizing on his mistake was Rob MacCachren, taking the lead and holding off Carl Renezeder to take the checkered flag. Rounding out the podium was Brian Deegan in third with Renezeder taking the second spot.
That was all the racing that mother nature would allow for the weekend. More rain hit the area, ending the racing for the weekend and postponing round ten to a later date.
Round ten will be made up later this year in Las Vegas or back in Southern California during the Challenge Cup. With point championships still up in the air the drivers will be looking to make this round up sooner than later.
