Well-built JKs can prove themselves on just about any terrain. Going on for eight years now, the third-gen Wrangler has brought along some great advancements in creature comforts and capability, as well as living up to the Jeep name we all know and love.
When it comes to power, however, it’s not exactly a whole new ball game. Six-cylinder motors have been the mainstay ever since the YJ came out nearly 30 years ago, and odds are that Chrysler won’t be offering V8s on these rigs anytime soon. That’s why it’s up to the aftermarket–namely, Magnuson Superchargers–to supe up these popular SUVs.
Recently, the company had the chance to take a built-out 2013 JKU from off-road blog Feed The Wheels and test it out on the dyno. Dubbed “REBELCON”, the rig sports a five-speed manual transmission, TeraFlex CRD 60 axles, PSC Motorsports steering, ARB air lockers, TNT Customs belly skid plates, Falken Wildpeak tires, King coilover shocks, and other such awesome upgrades.
One more to add to the list would be the MP1320 TVS supercharger courtesy of (you guessed it) Magnuson, adding a great amount of horsepower and torque to the equation. All told, the numbers came out to 265 hp and 225 lb-ft. of torque–no doubt a significant improvement over stock, and coming a lot sooner from the low to mid-range curves. Stock power for a JK runs between 180-190 horsepower to the wheels, and about that same range for torque as well.
So to those who say V8 swaps are the only way to go to get more grunt out of a Jeep, let them stand corrected when they see the dyno graph for one of these killer superchargers.
