Every year, members of 355nation, a nationwide Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon truck forum, get together and hold their yearly West Coast Super Meet. This meet is held all over the West Coast, bringing in members from all over California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

As part of the two day event, the off-road trucks get together the Saturday of the meet and go off-roading. This year they went to Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA) in Rancho Cordova, California.

Prairie City SVRA has many different areas for all types of off-roading. They have many technical four-wheel drive areas that test your vehicle’s articulation on obstacles such as steep hill climbs, pipe hills, and even a step-up pyramid.

For this year’s off-road meet, there were a total of six trucks to show up ranging from four-wheel-drive pickups, prerunners, and even a stock truck. The trucks headed out to explore the SVRA and found plenty of things to go out and have fun in.

The four-wheel-drive truck and others went to go hit the more technical hill climb areas while the prerunners bombed around the rally track. With multiple trucks with different types of terrain setup, the SVRA had everything to push the pickups to their limits.

With being able to handle the more technical hill climbs and crawling over rocks, the four-wheel-drive and off-road edition Colorados had little issue with anything they attempted. The SVRA did have even more technical areas that we did not attempt, but that is based more on the fact that they were designed for more extreme trucks to attempt.

The four-wheel-drive and Z71 trucks had little issues with the technical sections of the hills, almost showing off to their two-wheel-drive companions, who could only sit back and watch.

Trailers? What trailers? One and all of the GM midsizes made their way to the SVRA on their own four wheels. Some minor dings and dust is all that got to these trucks.

The two-wheel-drive Colorado and Canyons went over to the flat area of the SVRA to tear up the dirt and get a little dust on the tires. These trucks were designed to go fast and handle the in the dirt or the desert.

With the rally track open, the drivers loosened up to see what they could do, going around the track as if there was a real race going on. Each threw caution to the wind, hitting the turns and moving quickly through the straightaways.

Since the two-wheel-trucks had to take the backseat during the more technical sections of the off-road park, they were able to show what they could do in the turns on the off-road track as well as on the flat ground sections.

The prerunner trucks started to show off and tried to replicate a scene from Ken Block and his Gymkhana videos while they did donuts around one another in the dirt. The cloud of dust ended up getting so large that the four-wheel-drive trucks across the park could see it.

From mid-travel to long-travel suspension setups, the prerunners were able to handle the course and absorb the bumps at a higher speed than the four-wheel-drives.

All attendants were able to excel in their area of expertise, going out and enjoying the passion they share. The trucks finished for the day and went to go get cleaned up, as the second day of the meet would hold even more excitement.

We all met back at Discovery Park in Sacramento to enjoy a Show ‘N Shine day. During this part of the meet, trucks were able to get put up on the dyno and put the petal to the metal.

Not too often do you get to take your truck and see the power that it really puts out. As part of the second day of the meet, MCE Racing brought out their mobile DynoJet.

Most of the off-road trucks from the day before got up on the dyno, and the loud hum from the tires began to ring through the park. The first-gen Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyons, with their inline four-cylinder and five-cylinder motors, were putting out anywhere from 150 horsepower to up over 200 horsepower.

With the meet being a regional event, many members got to see each other for the first time as well as visiting with others that they only see at the meet each year. The location of the meet changes every year, so the excitement and off-roading will continuously be different.

We’re already back from NorCal and reflecting on how fun and refreshing it was to hang out this year. 2016 should be just as enjoyable, if not more so!
