Two of the top-selling trucks in the nation have had recalls announced this week. The 2015 Ford F-150 and the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have had a recall placed that can either cause a significant crash or in a significant crash major harm can be done.
Last week we did an article on the top selling trucks in April, and both of these models were one and two respectively, with the Colorado taking the top spot. This recall is something both manufactures did not need and time will tell if it hurts them in the long run.
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon have a recall that affects around 48,000 pickups. The recall is for the seat frame attachments not being properly secured during body assembly, which could result in the front seat not being secure during a crash. The good thing is that GM does not know of any crashes or injuries or fatalities resulting from this recall.
If you happen to have a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, you can go ahead and call Chevrolet at (800) 222-1020, GMC at (800) 462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 to find out further information.
With about 8,900 2015 Ford F-150 trucks being recalled, they do have a slight edge on the total number of vehicles affected. The F-150s are being recalled because part of the upper I-shaft of the steering column may have been riveted and attached improperly with the potential to come apart while driving. With this happening you will experience sudden loss of control to the truck which will increase your chance of getting in an accident.
Ford is not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the recall, but is aware of one reported issue with loss of steering, which they believe is related to the recall. If you happen to have a 2015 Ford F-150 and would like more information, contact Ford at (866) 436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at (888) 327-4236.
So which is worse? Neither are good for either of the automotive giants. With one you can get injured even more in a crash, and in the case of the other, you can cause the crash. Both automakers are in the first year with the new body style for their pickups. Hopefully they can work out the kinks and get these problems resolved before anything catastrophic happens.
In the full scope of things, they are not major issues compared to some of the recalls that have happened in recent years. Neither of the trucks are going to encounter any of the issues the Toyota Prius was having with increasing speed and not being able to stop. Thankfully for both automakers, there have been no incidents that have caused harm to anyone. Recalls happen all the time, and in the last couple years, they tend to make more headline news then they did in years past.
In the end as much as we do not want to say it, we believe that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon will get more backlash and have the more embarrassing of the recalls. Being the Motor Trend truck of the year, it will be under more of a microscope than any other pickup out there.
Not only is it a blow to the company, but it’s also more of the public and the people buying the trucks that will take notice of this because they have seen the commercials announcing that this is the number one pickup out there. Just like in sports when a team wins a championship, they will be picked apart left and right because they are number one, and just because it’s a truck does not excuse them from being overanalyzed. The great thing about both of these recalls and like most recalls out there is they can be fixed and your brand new truck can get back out on the road in no time.
