Just about the first thing a new Jeep Wrangler owner does, aside from driving the world’s most famous four-wheel-drive vehicle away from the dealership lot and into some dirt somewhere as soon as he or she possibly can, is begin to customize it.
Most new Jeep Wrangler owners begin that customization process with new tires and wheels. The next step they take might be beefier bumpers, a winch, some auxiliary lights, some safety equipment, and creature comforts. Many also take a look at that OE hard top and think, “Hmmmm, what would make that Jeep Wrangler look better and work better?”
Many choose to replace that OE hard top with any of the very well made and extremely useful soft tops on the market today. However there are just as many that prefer to keep the cabin better insulated and secure. But there is not the myriad of choices in aftermarket hard tops that there are available in soft tops.
Well, we discovered a very nice alternative to the Jeep Wrangler OE hard top that retains the insulating and security benefits of a hard top. But this is not a product built by the hundreds from some huge company. It’s a custom hard top built by Jeep Wrangler fan and JKForum member jsherb.
He says, “I’m not really a fan of the factory ‘flat top’ JK hardtops, so I’ve designed a custom modular top I’m calling the ‘Safari Cab.’ It’s got a raised roof for more interior room, a rear one-piece swinging ‘barn door,’ and it’s modular so the side panels can be removed and swapped for roll-up soft sides in the summer.”
Check out the photos and tell us (and jsherb) what you think. We want one, and think you will too once you’ve taken a good look at the way it makes a Jeep Wrangler JK or JKU look.
