The name Robby Gordon is synonymous with speed and has been a fixture in the off road community for decades. Speed is such a huge focus for Gordon, that he actually created his own energy drink company appropriately named Speed Energy Drink. Known for his fast paced life and fast paced driving style, Gordon has a reputation for being one of the guys to beat every time he steps into an off road race truck.
With wins in the prestigious Baja 1000 in the Trophy Truck class, Gordon was looking for his next challenge. He soon set his eyes on the Dakar Rally, the true endurance race to end all endurance races that takes place over a two week period in conditions that make an Inland Empire summer look like a trip to Las Vegas’ Monte Carlo Ice Bar. Competitors will race in upwards of 500-miles per day during the course of the rally, and are only able to repair their vehicle on course with another race (support) vehicle. Needless to say, it’s quite the challenge, and for the past few years, it has been Gordon’s main focus.
Armed with a new truck that was prototyped in 2014 named the “Gordini,” Gordon has reinvented the Dakar race truck using a heavily modified two-wheel-drive SST-chassis as the backbone to the new truck. In the video above, we see Gordon testing the Gordini and giving a brief overview of his goals for 2015. With the Dakar Rally starting in early January 2015, teams have been preparing since the beginning of the 2014, leaving drivers like Gordon chomping at the bit to get going in 2015.
We here at Offroad Xtreme wish Robby Gordon and his team the best of luck in their quest to win the 2015 Dakar and be the first Americans to win as well.
