Nitto Tire has slowly but surely positioned itself as one of the premier choices for off road rubber. Nowadays, the tire company is a virtual powerhouse in its industry, manufacturing seven popular models for the four-wheeling crowd to choose from.
We caught up with light truck and off-road brand manager Stephen Leu to discuss one of the latest additions to the Nitto fold, the Terra Grappler G2, short for Generation Two. “It really is a successor to the first Terra Grappler, in every sense of the word,” said Leu. “Starting with the tread surface, we made the sipes go full-depth through the tread blocks, so users will have that all-weather performance throughout the entire life of the tire.”
The new and improved rubber compound is noteworthy as well. Here, Leu stated that the hard metric variety are given a 65,000-mile warranty, while the LT and flotation sizes are protected up to 50,000 miles. “It’s pretty aggressive for the industry standards, and we’re quite proud of that,” said Leu.
The sidewall design was given a revamp, borrowing the lightning bolt reliefs from the first-gen model, yet the lugs have been grown out a little more to increase the mean looks and performance. The opposite side depicts a blade-type design, so users can pick which style they like better to use on their vehicle.

The Exo Grappler tire balances work and play duties in multiple environments, and has a three-peak mountain snowflake rating.
Elsewhere in the booth, the brand new Exo Grappler was on full display as well. Leu likened the tire to a hybrid design, “between an all-terrain and a mud terrain,” he said.
The Exo Grappler was designed for the daily driver/off roader, pulling double duty and expected to work well in both environments. The compound used here is resistant to cuts and chips, making the tread far more robust in places where sharp rocks and gravel (like work sites or beat-up dirt roads) are an everyday hazard.
“On the flipside, the tire can handle cold environments too,” said Leu. “The compound is sensitive enough to maintain its malleability, offering snow traction where and when it’s needed most.” The visible three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, a signifier of the tire exceeding industry requirements, puts to rest any doubts about the Exo Grappler’s rating.
