King Shocks, one of the most recognizable shock manufacturers in the off road racing industry was on hand to show off a broad spectrum of new products for the 2014 SEMA show. We stopped by and spoke with Mike Eads, Vice President of King, to see what he thought were the most honorable mentions of the show.
Eads first took us over to his display showing off the new black finned reservoirs that can be added to various sizes in the King product line. The finned design isn’t just for looks, and Eads was quick to mention that “depending on the shock, our class one and trophy trucks have documented 100-degrees cooler oil temperatures at race speeds thanks to the finned reservoir design.”
Next up was an all new style of shock mount design for those who are fortunate enough to have linked vehicles. The new clevis style mount is designed to wrap around the link arms, rather than having to create shock mounts inside of the arms themselves. Eads explained, “Instead of going into the link of the arm, this goes on the outside of the link to keep the cost down and keep it lighter.”
While we knew King offered OEM replacement shocks, we didn’t realize just how wide their OEM offering actually is and how much customizing can be done to fit a shock to any application. Eads addressed this by saying, “From Raptors to Mercedes, we cater to a full international market of OEM replacement shocks. If you’re doing a custom lift, let us know the manufacturer and the exact kit type, we will design a shock around it and make a shock that will fit for your application.”
Finally, for some eye candy, we had to check out King’s display of custom finishes, including a 24K Gold plated bypass shock – true eye candy.
