The potent and sturdy 3.0L V6 diesel engine has proven itself worthy in Ram pickup trucks and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and that has only created a pent-up demand for the torquey little powerplant in the Jeep Wrangler here in the United States too. From what was reported in the Carbuzz coverage of the Paris Auto Show, among three Jeep vehicles trotted out for the European press was a diesel-powered Wrangler. The question every American off-roader wants to ask Chrysler honchos is, “When will it come to the U.S.A?”

As you can see by the photos, the Jeep Wrangler was well outfitted for off-road adventures. Shown was a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon concept tagged the Rubicon Stealth. Its body was coated with a textured faux-patina Iron Peltrox and “rust-look” paint job, and it featured Rubicon X off-road bumpers, an engine hood with air vents, a set of rock rails, a black mesh grille, an LED light bar, half doors, and aggressive 37-inch rubber wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels.

The other two rigs on the show floor were a Grand Cherokee SRT Red Vapor special edition and a Renegade with some Mopar mods and U.S. Army-inspired stars. Neither of those did much for us, but the Rubicon Stealth with the diesel engine got our attention in a big way. If anybody at Chrysler is reading this, please get that diesel-powered Wrangler in production for the U.S. market now!
