The trend toward reviving classics has made the rounds–Hollywood remakes, cover bands that crop up at every bar, the list goes on. Automakers are no exception, and the examples are many. Jeep, for its part, has executed the process on the Cherokee with the KL platform, and now might pull a similar move with another beloved nameplate.
We’re of course talking about the Scrambler, which you all know as Jeep’s pickup that was around for far too short a time. Produced from 1981 to 1985, the pickup/ute was an interesting novelty item that never sold much, but became iconic in the years following its exit. Even Ronald Reagan was a fan of the Scrambler (his personal vehicle is now stored at the historic ranch in Santa Barbara, California).
After the Scrambler was gone, Jeep was quick to fill the gap left behind by with the Comanche, based off of the XJ’s architecture. The model found moderate success, with production lasting seven years. Nevertheless, after all that time, Jeep has left its fans waiting in the wings regarding a new pickup.
But that didn’t stop Allpar.com member JackRatchett from giving us this awesome rendering, which merges the utility of a pickup bed with the body of the forthcoming Renegade compact SUV. It’s a little bit jarring at first, and it may take a while to get used to, but it would definitely make a lot of sense in foreign markets, where size doesn’t matter as much as it does here in the States.
Rumors about a possible pickup Jeep claim something good will arrive come 2019, but that’s a long way off yet. What do you think? Would you consider something like this if it were to go into production? Or would you steer clear of it entirely? Give us your two cents below.
