Players of the immensely successful video game Grand Theft Auto V now have a fresh update waiting for them when they boot up their favorite console. On June 17th, the developer of everyone’s favorite crime simulator, Rockstar Games, released the “I’m Not a Hipster” update for the masses, and it packs a pretty hefty bunch of features.
Twelve new missions now top off the fun and mystery of Los Santos, a virtual take on Los Angeles and its environs. Road races, gang wars, and property damage are taken to new heights as players try out several new weapons, like the Vintage Pistol and Calvary Dagger.
Some of the cooler cars appear to be the sport compacts inspired by classic Japanese designs, ala 1970s Datsun 510s and Toyota Celicas. The game versions are called Rhapsody, Warrener, Blade, and Glendale. There’s even a Smart knockoff–the Panto–ready for ridicule (and possibly tipping over).
Yet the main draw for us off-road enthusiasts has to be the impressive Dubsta, a 6×6 behemoth clearly inspired by the renowned Mercedes-Benz G63 6×6. The German piece de resistance is all the rage in countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, where dune-hopping sheiks seek out the SUV for its unique drivetrain, elegant creature comforts, and unmistakeable silhouette.
Given that the going price for one of these things hovers above $500K, it’s highly likely that the Dubsta will be the closest any of us will ever get to driving a G63, let alone firing off Uzis and tossing grenades at unsuspecting passers-by. Stress relief, anyone?
