Picture this: you, racing in King Of the Hammers, inside a purpose-built machine crafted specifically for the event. If this is something you’re interested in–which we know you are–then you might be excited to learn about the new 4700 Class, Ultra4’s latest addition to the rip-roaring fun that is KOH.
At its core, the 4700 class is a spec class that offers folks (racers and fans alike) access to identical yet highly capable JK-styled vehicles, which can be rented or purchased through Ultra4 for racing or pure recreation. Premium parts and components make each and every one of them a definite contender too: Mopar HEMI 5.7L V8, Fox Racing Shox, Dynomax exhaust, Spidertrax axles and housings, Yukon dropouts and lockers, Odyssey batteries, and Falken tires.
Even on an economic level, the program just makes perfect sense for those unfamiliar with KOH. Drivers get a taste of what the course has to offer, all while seated behind the wheel of a competently constructed and race-tuned vehicle capable of almost 400 HP and 400 pound-feet of torque, all for less than $10,000 (rental per race).
Ultra4 states that its is going to have the 4700 Class stretch into other races as well, primarily those that are part of the Trail-Gear Western Regional Series, which will take place all over California and Utah. Sweetening the pot of all this is the 4700’s purse, of course, which awards the victor a cool $20,000.
Unfortunately, you’re out of luck if you want to take one of these puppies racing in the tomorrow’s 2014 KOH, since there’s just six of them in existence right now, but can catch their debut February 6, 2014, during the Smittybilt Every Man Challenge race. You will, however, find ample opportunities at the upcoming venues this year, including Moab, the Rubicon Trail, and more.Â
