Have you ever wanted to test your vehicle’s abilities or your own skills driving off-road courses laid out across some of the toughest terrain in the world? Well thanks to avid off-road enthusiasts and Dakar veterans Darren Skilton and Scott Whitney, that’s exactly what a new event set to kick off on April 2, 2014 is offering. Introducing Rally Diabolico – a four-day off-road event held in some of Sonora, Mexico’s most remote desert dunes.
Having competed in events like Dakar, Skilton and Whitney wanted to bring the challenge and thrill of some of the most extraordinary off-road events held in South America and Africa closer to competitors in the United States. Held in Sonora, Mexico, this event will take place just 30 minutes from the United States/Mexico border, allowing event participants easier and less expensive access to the event’s offerings than those held on other continents.
Just like other extreme off-road races across the world, Rally Diabolico will challenge participants to navigate daunting desert dunes, never-before raced roads and terrain with no arrows or burned-in paths from pre-race runs. All participants will have to help guide them is a road book and a compass, leaving race paths up to each individual team.
Doing well at Rally Diabolico depends on each team’s ability to follow its road book and compass readings precisely. The team that is the most precise will have the best chance at winning the event.
To help participants along the way, there will be a central pit area in the middle of the desolate event grounds. Aside from this, competitors can plan on seeing only vast expanses of desert and other competitors due to the remote location of the race.
Not many details have been released about Rally Diabolico yet, but the team putting on the event encourages those interested in participating to stay in contact via the event’s website or Facebook page for updates on an entry opening date, rules, and event offerings. The event will be open to off-road trucks, cars and bikes.
