Fair season is over, as the last remnants of the Los Angeles County Fair leave the Fairplex, the off-road community takes over. The 2015 Off Road Expo is held every year after the fair at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, which showcases the latest and greatest in the off-road community.
This year was no exception, as off-road fans came out to see everything that was happening. With the weather showing a rare California rain on Sunday, the event was packed on Saturday. For those that have not had the experience of going to this event, it is plain and simple, the best of the best in the off-road industry.
Manufactures come out to the event to showcase their products and the vehicle builds they have been apart yet. We spoke with Greg and his son Sean, from Pomona, on why they like to come out to the event. “Off-roading is a family event in our house, we flat out love it. We come to the show every year to see all of the vehicles,” said Greg.
Walking around the show it is evident that off-roading is a family affair with all of the events and giveaways the younger off-road generation was able to enjoy the show just as much of the show as the adults. All weekend long there was a live Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series demonstration with modified karts and Pro Lites. They put on a show for the crowd jumping the trucks and burning some rubber.
This year the Rubicon Trail was in Southern California. Pro Comp, Smittybilt, G2 Axle & Gear and Rubicon Express teamed up to create a replica trail that let attendees experience some obstacles they may see on the trail. The drivers did get to do more than they would on the trail, as they drove on top the concrete barriers.
Getting ideas for a project of your own, could be found around every corner of the show. Every type of off-road vehicle filled the fairgrounds, from luxury prerunners to budget builds. Once again the Off Road Expo held its annual show ‘n’ shine, which had a wide range of vehicles as well.
“Being able to see all the trucks you see pictures of online in person is really cool,” said Wyatt, age 12 from San Dimas, California. Wyatt loved the fact that he could see the trucks he dreams of driving. He said when he gets older he wants to have an off-road vehicle of his own.
If off-road celebrity sightings and autographs were more your style, the SCORE hall was the place to be. The hall had plenty of Trophy Trucks on display, along with daily autograph signings. This year SCORE announced the course for the Baja 1000 and the 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship schedule.
Regardless of what you came to the show for, there was plenty to do and see at this year’s Off Road Expo. Stay tuned for more coverage of this year’s expo as we release the top products and our choice for the top vehicles of the show.
