In a few weeks, one of the largest gatherings of four-wheel-drive vehicles is taking place in Moab, Utah. The 51st annual Easter Jeep Safari kicks off April 8th and for nine days the small town will come to live with hundreds of rigs ready to hit the trails.
Red Rock 4-Wheelers has plenty of events and trial rides set up for people with all types of experiences, but what should you pack in the car before heading out to the event. We take a look at some items that will make your time on the trail more enjoyable.
1. Cooler
Most rockcrawlers or Jeeps do not have a ton of space and it is important to figure out what are the most important things to pack. One thing that cannot go without saying is a cooler with plenty of snacks and drinks.
You never know what is going to happen on the trail and having plenty of fluids. You may want to pack the cooler full of your favorite beverage, but make sure to pack plenty of water.
2. Communications
At an event like this, it can be difficult to stay in communication with the group on the trail with cell service being nearly extinct. The advancements in communications can lead you down two different paths – CB radio or VHF/UHF radio.
CB radios can be the go to as people are more familiar with them and could already have them. Many people nowadays are going the VHF/UHF radio route. The only recommendation on this would be to select a radio that you use with your normal group of off-roaders. Have one type of radio is better than not having any.
3. Extra Fuel
Before heading out to the trail it is a great idea to top off your tank. Running out of gas is never fun, but on the trail is even worse. Some trails could require extra fuel to complete and the use of fuel containers will be needed.
This would also be a great time to make sure to clean or replace fuel filters before heading out to the event. Making sure your rig is running in tip top shape should always be a priority.
4. Safety Gear/ Recovery Equipment
These items should be in your vehicle anytime you hit the trail already. These are essential items include a first aid kit, tow strap, jack, fire extinguisher, shovel, tools, and spare parts. Regardless if someone else has these items it is better to pack your own. You never know when something may break and you need a backup.
If your vehicle needs anything special, a tool or socket that only you may need make sure that is packed. If you think you may need it is is better to have it than leave it in the garage.
