What says classy gas guzzler like an H3 Hummer Limo? Not much really. Riding around in one of these will cost you about 8 miles to the gallon, respectively, and for the most part it has no place in off-road sport…or does it?
SpinTires–the exceptionally fun to play off-road driving video game, has an available option to take the sporting H3 Hummer Limo for a drive on the dirt. However, there isn’t much practicality to it in the game. It has slow acceleration and limited maneuverability, just like in real life; it’s just one of those oddball vehicle options in the game made for just screwing around and having some fun, also just like in real life.
The user-made mod for the game spared no expense on the specs on the H3 Limo. The interior comes with an option for a stylish minibar, and its first person mode places you in the perspective of the cab, however it is quite hard to try and drive from that view point. Most people would pay a pretty penny to spend a night out on the town in an H3 Limo, but taking one to the track and going mudding just for the hell of it would be the better experience in our book, even if it is likely to get stuck, bottom out, or even roll over (RIP minibar).
The H3 Limo in-game holds up quite well on its own merit. Despite its sluggish pace at first, Spin Tire has put a fair amount of realism in the game itself.
The H3’s suspension and torque when powering over mounds, mud, and ditches is a bit shy of accurate since these are video game physics after all, but it’s nonetheless reasonable and undoubtedly fun. The player community went out of their way to add in the Hummer Limo, and it is well worth the bit of enjoyment found playing with it. If anything, it gives the rest of us a clear indication of why limos would be more trouble than they’re worth when out mudding (minibar notwithstanding).
