When it comes to matching off-road capabilities with refined luxury and unmistakable British tastes, Land Rover has no equals. Vehicles like the Range Rover and Land Rover Defender helped the British marque become a worldwide phenomenon, and the past few years have seen it rejuvenated with fresh enthusiasm and new vehicles like the sexy-yet-capable Evoque.
Not content with a traditional crossover though, the Range Rover Evoque is getting a convertible version that promises to be every bit the trailblazer of its handtop stablemate. This video captures the final days of off-roading testing for the new Evoque Convertible at Eastnor Castle Estate, where all Range Rovers have been put through their final paces for the past 45 years.
“Land Rover prides itself on being a class leader when it comes to all-terrain capability and the Evoque Convertible is no different,” said Mike Cross, Land Rover Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity, said. “Thanks to a combination of innovative engineering and the application of advanced technologies, Evoque Convertible will deliver a dynamic and assured SUV experience that has been tested around the world. We call it ‘The Convertible for all Seasons’.”
The idea of a convertible off-road is nothing new, with the venerable Jeep Wrangler and its forbearers having carried that torch since the end of World War II. Land Rover instead claims that the Evoque Convertible is the first “premium compact convertible SUV”, and the video certainly paints a picture of a capable vehicle. But how many Land Rover buyers ever actually go any further besides crawling over the occasional parking lot curb? That’s the utility you’re paying for with that “premium” pricing, regardless of it you use it or not.
