All vehicles made the mandatory stop at Aliante Casino and Hotel yesterday for tech and contingency at the 2016 Best in the Desert Vegas to Reno off-road race. With the race beginning this morning we take a look back at what happened during contingency yesterday and announce an important update to the course this morning.
There was a military plane crashed Thursday morning and helicopter crash on the course between Pit 1 and Pit 2 late Thursday near Nellis Air Force Base. With the crash on the course, all vehicles starting today’s race would race to Pit 1, have to get loaded on to the team’s trailer and then driven on the highway to Pit 2, to continue racing. This was announcement was made by Best in the Desert this morning and thankfully there were no fatalities in either accident.
Tech and contingency at the Aliante Casino and Hotel seemed like a never ending parade outside under the hot Las Vegas sun.
Contingency brings out all the teams and vendors to the Aliante Casino and Hotel to make sure the vehicles have everything they need for the race as well as to make sure they pass a technical inspection. The technical inspection makes sure that all the vehicles meet the required safety requirements and are cleared to race.
This is the 20th running of the Vegas to Reno, the long way, off-road race, and is a two-day race through the Nevada desert. Stay tuned for more updates as them come in, and for a full recap of the event!
