Lifting your truck makes sense for a variety of reasons. Gaining altitude allows for larger tires to be installed, which in turn offers better ground clearance and improved off-road ability. It also makes your truck look amazing. But let’s be real, modifying any vehicle’s factory suspension comes with its share of downsides. Camber and caster get thrown out of spec, which can lead to a wandering feeling going down the road. Fender trimming might be required to fit the larger tires. And more. What if we told you there was a way to correct most, if not all, of these downsides? Enter upgraded control arms.
Specialty Products Company (SPC) is a well known USA manufacturer of suspension components and alignment aids for passenger vehicles, racing applications, and off-road vehicles. Never satisfied with the status quo, SPC continues to evolve its line of adjustable upper control arm (UCA) offerings and has developed the next generation of off-road-ready UCAs for the 2005 to 2025 Toyota Tacoma. These new 35 Series arms feature many unique benefits over conventional, older technology offerings.
High-Angle Maintenance-Free Ball Joints
SPC listened to what the market was demanding and has responded with new ball joints that feature a one-piece polymer race along with a special coating on the ball stud to ensure low turning torque and incredibly smooth operation—and inspects like an OE piece. It also includes a completely new boot seal designed to repel contaminants. The new grease formula within is designed for extended life and maintenance-free operation. Like previous generations, these joints continue to feature 80 degrees of articulation, a 25-percent larger stud cross section, and forged steel construction for rugged dependability. The Next-Gen ball joints are reverse compatible with existing SPC adjustable upper control arms offering camber and caster adjustment. Because they are of a sealed, maintenance-free design, they will give many years of dependable service.
Upgraded Toyota Tacoma Control Arms
The 35 Series control arms are constructed of forged steel for maximum strength, clearance, and suspension travel. They also feature provisions for dialing in additional castor for lifted vehicles. The new arm’s adjustment range combines with the OE adjusters to correct alignment angles for improved durability and reduced tire wear. The company claims its 35 Series control arms make it possible to move the tire position forward, maximizing clearance for 33-inch tires without frame or fender modifications.
SPC’s new 35 Series arms also feature a newly designed xAxis sealed flex joint bushing that includes a polymer race, locking tabs to prevent rotation within the enclosure, and a new seal designed to repel contaminants. These joints also aid in correcting alignment angles along with offering a more factory-like ride quality.
