We recently had the chance to test out the 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road, and thought that it was packed with everything you could imagine. Well Toyota has stepped up its game and announce the release of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Off Road.
You may think that it is just one little addition to the name, but this vehicle is packed with even more features then the one we tested. Two years ago, the TRD Pro Series arose from Toyota’s storied off-road racing heritage, with its numerous victories in the grueling Baja off-road endurance races.
The Toyota Tacoma will rejoin the 2017 model year TRD Pro family with all-new factory-installed off-road equipment designed by the experts at Toyota Racing Development (TRD) to make it even more off-road capable than before. This truck is designed for the extreme off-roading enthusiasts who challenge themselves and their trucks in some of the harshest conditions.
Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4×4 Double Cab Short Bed model in either 6-speed manual (with clutch start-cancel switch) or 6-speed automatic transmission, the new Tacoma TRD Pro will be available in three exterior colors: Cement, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Super White.
The truck is loaded with features inside and out.
Every Pro model truck’s exterior will dawn 16-inch TRD black alloy wheels with Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, TRD Pro aluminum front skid plate Rigid Industries LED fog lights, projector-beam headlights with black bezels, LED daytime running lights, taillights with black bezels, TRD Pro badge on front door with diamond-pattern knurled finish, and black TRD Pro and 4×4 rear tailgate badging.
Just because the truck may see some of the harshest conditions on the outside does not mean the occupants need to feel them as well. The truck is loaded with creature comfort features inside. Some of the standard features on the Pro truck include black TRD Pro leather-trimmed heated front seats with TRD Pro logo located in the headrest, four-way adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support and four-way adjustable front passenger seat, Entune premium audio with integrated navigation and app suite, TRD shift knob, TRD Pro floor mats, rear parking assist sonar, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Something that was unique in the 2016 models will transfer over to the 2017 Pro model as well. The integrated GoPro mount located on the windshield will be in the TRD Pro Tacoma so owners can capture all the extreme moments.
Tacoma TRD Pro earns its off-road cred through its TRD-installed suspension and exhaust enhancements that include Fox 2.5 internal bypass shocks tuned by TRD, TRD-tuned front springs with a one-inch lift, and TRD-tuned rear suspension with progressive-rate off-road leaf springs.
Every Tacoma TRD Pro will be equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with a transfer case and automatic limited-slip differential that are both electronically-controlled. An electronically controlled locking rear differential is also standard to help distribute engine power evenly to both rear wheels so they move at the same speed, providing more grip in low-traction conditions.
One feature we were excited to test on the 2016 model was crawl control. This feature will also be standard on TRD Pro models. This system automatically modulates the throttle and brakes on five low-speed settings so you can keep your focus on navigating across difficult terrain.
This will be a great addition to the Tacoma lineup and for off-roaders alike. The features that come standard on the truck will allow for endless hours of fun out in the dirt. What feature are you excited about? Tell us in the comments below.
