If the ongoing “Snowpocalypse” has been any indication, it’s that people back east and down south are in dire straits. It seems like they could use all the help they can get.
Ford, showing a good dose of flexibility and ingenuity, recently showed off a new package option for its F-150 pickup geared specifically at the snowbound folks stuck for what seems like an eternity: a snow plow. The option is set to appear on the 2015 trucks when they become available later this year. Unfortunately, that may not be in time to help this winter.
Introduced at the Chicago Auto Show just recently, the plow, at this point, is planned to only come equipped in a select few option combinations. The truck must first have 4WD and the 5.0L V8, as well as come in XL, XLT, or Lariat trim; beyond that, however, any cab configuration will work with the plow, be it SuperCrew, Regular, or SuperCab.
“The new 2015 F-150 is the toughest F-150 ever, and by using more high-strength steel in its frame and advanced materials in the body, we’ve made the new truck up to 700 pounds lighter,” said Eric Peterson, Ford F-150 marketing manager. “This leads to more capability and better handling, which is exactly what you’d want for plowing. Adding a snow plow prep kit to our lineup helps ensure our customers have even more tools at their disposal to get the job done.”
All told, the snow plow will add 450 pounds to the truck, bringing the gross vehicle weight rating to 8500 pounds. It will also need to be installed by a “Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier,” and pricing will be announced later this year.
