Off-road race trucks are most known for racing on dirt, but that model continues to change the first full week of January. Red Bull’s Frozen Rush is back for its third year at Maine’s Sunday River Ski Resort.
Trucks that are used to running in temperatures over 100 degrees will face the bitter cold. Temperatures for the race on Friday, January 8th will be below freezing.
Traction in snowy conditions is usually less than ideal, but studded and specially designed all-terrain tires from BFGoodrich’s research and development team will outfit each vehicle.
“The cold is bitter and unforgiving, it messes with the equipment, but my team and I welcome the challenge of figuring out the best way to succeed. Last year I came to win, this year I intend to dominate,” 2015 Frozen Rush champion, Bryce Menzies said about this years race.
Menzies will have to fight off a lineup of drivers that are well known and hunting to be the best in the snow. Ricky Johnson, Scott Douglas, Rob MacCachren, Carl Renezeder, RJ Anderson, Johnny Greaves will all be back in the snow, while CJ Greaves heads to the snow for the first time.
“We are always driving on the dirt and racing, 16 races a year, and when we get to go do one of these events and this one’s in the snow, its really exciting. It challenges you as a driver to change up your driving style to figure out the little things that make you go faster. It’s really cool to see the sport grow and to go Maine where no one has ever seen these off-road trucks, and to see the excitement and enthusiasm about them,” Menzies mentioned.
You can tune in on January 8th at 12:30 pm EST to Red Bull Live to watch the top drivers battle for the Frozen Rush crown. Who will you be rooting for?
