Remote control (RC) cars and trucks have been a fan favorite for kids of all ages. Now, adults have a new RC car to play with thanks to Land Rover’s new technology. Land Rover has been at the leading edge of off-road technology for a while now, and what they have come up with this year is truly amazing.
In a nutshell, the technology lets you get completely out of the vehicle and use a remote to control your vehicle. Put another way, you get to be outside the vehicle and be a spotter for yourself; no more having the need for a spotter while out on the trail to make sure you are taking the right line, or which line to take.
The demonstration involved a Range Rover Sport, seen piloted using a smartphone. The smartphone app includes control of steering, accelerator, and brakes, as well as command of the high- and low-range four-wheel-drive. At a maximum speed of 4mph, this would allow the driver to walk alongside the car to maneuver their car out of challenging situations safely, or even to negotiate difficult off-road terrain.
Even getting into a tight parking spot is simple with the new tech. It will allow you to easily get out of any sticky situation. The possibilities with this new technology are endless.
In time, using voice commands is another feature that will be released. The driver only needs to say a couple of magic words, and the vehicle will do the rest. This new type of RC can dramatically change the way people off-road.
The RC function will only operate if the user is within thirty feet of the car and if the smart key can be detected. The technology will stop the vehicle if the driver moves out of range or gets too close.
With this new technology it can increase safety in bad weather conditions as well as out on the trail. Is this technology something that you would like to have in your vehicle? Tell us in the comments below.
