For the millions of Americans enduring yet another polar vortex, bringing single digit temperatures and icy winds, it’s starting to feel like spring can’t come soon enough. For car guys and gals, the winter is a time to take a step and upgrade, improve, or fix our rides, and Ken Block has not frittered away these frigid winter months.
The Gymkhana master has taken a Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, and strapped on four snowmobile track contraptions in the place of wheels. Block calls the resulting vehicle the RaptorTrax, and where the production Raptor is right at home in the heat of the desert, the RaptorTrax prefers powdery snow and cold temperatures.
The key to this conversion was a set of Mattracks that convert the wheel hubs into a drive system for four individual sets of tracks. These turn the Raptor into a sort of a tank, and it can handle the snow-covered slopes where Block and his friends snowboard with relative ease. Naturally though, the modifications didn’t end there.
Block and his buddies also added a Whipple supercharger to the 6.2L V8, as well as a full roll cage, Recaro racing seats, roof rack, and a snowboard rack built into the bed of the RaptorTrax. It’s the ultimate in cold weather transportation, and it would look right at home parked outside either a ski lodge or a polar weather station.
