The all-new 2016 Toyota Hilux is out. Toyota unveiled the completely redesigned Hilux pickup in Toyota City, Japan. The Hilux has always been a fan favorite since hitting the road in 1968, with over 16 million having been sold in more than 180 countries. The Toyota Hilux has always been known as a “tough” truck and the new model will live up to the term. 2016’s Hilux will feature more ride comfort than previous models, as well as a more quiet cabin that allows you to be able to talk to the other people in the truck during any driving condition.
One of the main features of the new 2016 Toyota Hilux is an enlarged side rail cross-section frame to improve comfort and ruggedness. The Hilux will also have improved off-road performance with upgraded leaf spring suspension and shock absorbers. Three different types of suspension specifications suit any way people drive–standard, heavy duty, and comfort.
With a stronger frame, the 2016 Toyota Hilux will also have a newly developed engine and transmission. The new 2,755cc diesel engine features excellent torque at all rev ranges, while still having increased fuel efficiency. The Hilux will also have a new six-speed transmission and better gear ratios to get the best out of the engine.
Interior of the New Toyota Hilux
Toyota did not spare any upgrades on the foundation of the truck, and they kept that theme up with the interior and exterior. The exterior of the truck will keep up the “tough” look with a slender sleek body, wheel flares, and LED headlamps. The interior of the truck sports an instrument panel that gives the dash a completely refined look. Inside, there’s also a multi-touch control panel for your radio, as well as four-wheel-drive controls and upgraded seats.
It is not always the best idea to completely reinvent the wheel or take something good and change it, but in some cases it works out for the better. With this in mind, the development team put the truck through long-distance journeys, and drove the truck on trails in the forest to the barren, 122° F desert to make sure that this truck could stand up against the harsh conditions that consumers will put the vehicle through.
Toyota Motor Corporation came up with a new slogan for the truck: “A New Era for Pickup. Every Inch a Hilux.” With the new slogan and the looks of a completely redesigned truck, this will sure make an impact on the pickup market worldwide. We will need to continue to watch Toyota and see more real world testing of this redesigned pickup.
